As the 35th Premier of Queensland, the Honourable Rob Borbidge AO led a minority National Liberal Coalition Government from 1996 to 1998. Mr Borbidge retired from the Queensland Parliament in 2001 after serving over 20 years as MP for Surfers Paradise. He was the 35th Premier of Queensland from 1996 to 1998.

After leaving Parliament he became involved in a number of private and public companies and has a close association with Griffith University. In 2001 he was awarded a Centenary Medal, in 2004 he was made an Honorary Doctor of Griffith University and in 2006 appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO). Rob serves as Chairman on the Study Gold Coast Management Committee. He is also Chair of the Embracing 2018 Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth Games.
