What is Trade 2018?

Trade 2018 is the extensive Trade and Investment Program being developed to run in the lead-up to and during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Trade 2018 is designed to strengthen trade and investment ties across the Commonwealth and also boost Queensland’s international business profile. It is our hope we can change the way future hosts plan their Games by showing the value of this long standing Commonwealth institution as a vehicle for more than sport.

Who is eligible to participate / attend an event?

All individuals and businesses (international and domestic) need to complete the online registration form to be considered for the Trade 2018 Games Time Trade and Investment Program.

Registration does not guarantee participation in the Program – all applications will be reviewed by the Trade 2018 team to ensure the application is true and correct, and the individual or business meets the objectives of Trade 2018 and has a genuine interest in doing business across the Commonwealth and beyond.

As part of the registration process, applicants also need to agree to the Program terms and conditions and submit an appropriate passport style headshot.

Registrations must be submitted by 16 March 2018. Please register as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as places are limited.

Please note:

  • Queensland businesses seeking to participate must be a registered Gold Coast or Queensland based business, have a successful and proven track record and have an active Australian Business Number (ABN). Priority will be given to businesses who are export or investment ready and have an established export or investment plan.
  • All interested individuals and/or businesses must be registered by 16 March 2018. There will be no registrations available on the day of the event.
  • There is no public access to any Trade 2018 event venues (including Commonwealth House).

What does it cost to attend the Trade 2018 Games Time Trade and Investment Program?

All scheduled Program events, site visits and activities are free of charge (no cost charged).

You will be required to arrange your own funds to cover associated costs such as flights, transfers, accommodation, transport, entertainment and dining and expenses of a personal nature to participate.

Please note: Flights and accommodation should be booked by businesses once delegate participation has been confirmed by the Trade 2018 support team

How long should delegates visit Queensland?

Given the duration of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) and the Trade 2018 Games Time Trade and Investment Program, we propose delegate programs be between two to four days in duration. Options will be available for delegates to participate in blocks of activities tailored to areas of interest.

We invite delegates to stay as long as they wish but anticipate not all delegates will stay the duration of GC2018. The program is focused around key priority sectors and delegates may be interested in attending multiple events during the course of the Games.

While opportunities in Queensland are ongoing, the Trade 2018 Games Time Trade and Investment Program will run from 3 to 16 April 2018; activity at Commonwealth House will take place from 26 March to 16 April with core programming to start 3 April.

Please refer to the Program section of this website for event details

What safety and security measures are being coordinated?

GC2018 venues will be secure and have onsite security specialists.

For the safety and security of all guests entering Commonwealth House, delegates and guests will be required to comply with the conditions of entry to the venue, which may include but not be limited to entry scanning and a search of personal items by consent.
